Can you recover childhood memories through hypnosis?

jack m asked:

Well, I am 15 and I have excellent short term memory. Like in school I can remember things almost perfectly, which helps me on tests. However I have very few memories from my childhood and none are clear, and I also lose long term memories quickly. I was wondering if these could be recovered through hypnosis.

Be very careful with this one. There have been cases where psychologists, hypnotists etc. actually implant false memories into patients.
So while the patient believes something to be a real childhood memory, it is actually completely made up. There are a few cases of fathers being arrested for sexually abusing their children because of false memories planted into the children.
Do some more research on memory (it is a very bizarre thing, very inaccurate etc.) before you try and do something like this.

Recovering memory through hypnosis is a debatable subject. Because each time you revisit a memory by the very nature of being in the present to do that, can change that memory. So yes it is possible by a suitable qualified/registered hypnotherapist, but results and quality cannot be guaranteed.
You are also at an age of growing and changing fast, and it is great you have a good memory for tests and so on, so you might find that as you get older long term memories become more clear – for some unknown reason!
