How do you feel about two obese people parenting a child?

Caucasian asked:

Should the government be forcing food education onto these people or take the kids away to live a healthy lifestyle. Statistics dont lie, majority of overweight kids have fat parents. Type 2 diabetes and coronary heart disease cost tax payers billions.

Obese people need assistance to help them lose weight, not to have their kids taken away from them.

An obese parent can offer a child just as much love as a parent of normal weight.

So an obese parent isn’t perfect? How many of us are?

You can see their problems so you feel its ok to penalize them for it.

    That is wrong.

Help them make sure they make good food/exercise choices for their kids.

But otherwise fat has no impact on someone’s ability to be an excellent parent.

@RACHEL – A lot of people DON’T know what healthy food choices are. Fat people AND thin people. All those people should be given info to help them. It just happens that it is more apparent if someone is obese that they are making the wrong food choices. They MAY know the right ones, yes, but they also often do not.

When I was obese I knew what healthy foods I SHOULD be eating, but many do not.

I say, no, it is not proper for governments to interfere with our liberty. Here is an article that is in favor of the nanny state:

It would be fine as long as they didnt make the child obese & gave it nutritionally balanced meals.

And no, fat people dont need to be told what foods to give their kids, every one KNOWS whats healthy & what isnt.

You’re asking if people should be deprived of their parental rights for taking up a certain amount of space?

    The answer is no.

“The majority of overweight kids have fat parents”?

Here’s a newsflash: the majority of people in the US are overweight PERIOD. The ethical implications of size-based oppression aside, yanking kids away from all the overweight parents won’t work because there’s nowhere else for them to go.

Presuming that obese people are necessarily living an unhealthy lifestyle is bigoted- there are dozens if not hundreds of contributing factors.

The chances for a healthy birth are not good. The environment can’t be good for a child. Obesity is a disease, an illness, and parents pass it along to their offspring. I don’t think fatties should be allowed to have kids. Of course, I don’t think christians and muslims should be allowed to reproduce either.

I think your missing the bigger picture here, that whether you are fat, skinny, smart, ignorant, rich, poor we all die in the end. Someone who is a health freak could die at a younger age than someone who drinks and smokes cigarettes. Plus, being fat depends on the persons metabolism, I eat all the time and don’t gain weight.

Although obese people need to learn how to control their appetite, I think that criminals are the ones who should not be allowed to have kids : criminals cost the taxpayers billions and destroy society’s infrastructures. Law abiding obese people are less prejudicial to society.

I would think nothing of it. People are obese due to medical problems too you know. I am the fattest person in my family, so the opposite is true.

type 2 isn’t a disease, more like a common flu if treated and completely reversible, its only type 1 you should look out for, its all about proper controlled diet and exercise

Some morbidly obese people have mistaken their newborns for a trussed up turkey and devoured them.
It’s definitely something to keep in mind.

People become obese for many reasons, and some is certainly related to food however sometimes obesity happens because a person has an emotional imbalance and doesn’t feel loved. Not feeling loved some people turn to food. So to answer your question; how could you consider taking children away from loving parents obese or not? This in itself can cause the child to become obese due to the emotional trauma the child would suffer due to being taken away from their parents.
