Moms and dads, did you let the gender of your child effect your parenting style?

Jw asked:

Say, you wanted a kid who’s a great athlete and were expecting a son but got a daughter instead. Would you still want her to pursue athletics if she were willing? Would you be disapointed if you had a son who wasn’t interested in stereotypical manly things?

I have evolved beyond pigeonholing my child with silly gender stereotypes and cliches to begin with. I don’t care what gender they are, or what they want to do for that matter. People just need to grow up about that kind of thing.

When we adopted, at first, we had said “boys only” because we are such high energy parents.

But, we never got any matches, and RIGHT when we said “girl or boy” we were matched with a sibling group of 2, and got a boy and a girl.

My daughter is a rough and tough tomboy on the basketball court, and an iCarly watching diva at home. haha

If my son wasn’t the awesome athlete he is, it wouldn’t bother us at all. I mean, it’s HIS life, let him find his interests in his passions is our motto…for either of them.

Just let your child join what they like. If they dont like sports or anything all that much, dont pressure it onto them to join them.
